Screenshot to Text

Screenshots are full of text you can't select: error messages, chat threads, slides in a video call, settings screens. OCR turns them back into text you can copy, search and paste.

About this tool

Screen text is crisp and high-contrast, so results are usually near perfect. Private screenshots stay on your device — the recognizer runs in your browser.

How it works

  1. 1

Add an image with text (or try the sample).

  2. 2

Press Extract text — the first run downloads the recognizer once.

  3. 3

    Copy or download the result.

Frequently asked questions

Can I paste a screenshot directly?

Use Screenshot to Image to paste from the clipboard, then drop the saved file here — or drop the screenshot file directly.

Does it read dark-mode screenshots?

Yes. The enhancement step normalizes contrast so light-on-dark text is read too.

Is my image sent to an OCR service?

No. The text recognizer (Tesseract) is downloaded from this site once and runs entirely in your browser. Your image never leaves your device.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Files are decoded, processed and re-encoded by your browser using the canvas API and Web Workers. Nothing is sent to any server, and there is no account or storage. Closing the tab discards everything.
