Compression & optimization

Compress Animated GIFs

Animated GIFs get huge quickly, and chat apps, forums and email often reject anything over a few megabytes. This compressor keeps the animation and squeezes the file three ways: fewer colors, smaller dimensions and fewer frames.

Add an animated GIF (or try the sample).

  2. 2

Lower colors, size or frame count.

  3. 3

    Compress, compare and download.

Frequently asked questions

Which setting saves the most?

Reducing the size usually saves the most, then dropping frames, then fewer colors.

Why is my GIF still big?

Long or full-screen animations are inherently large. Consider converting to a video or WebP for big savings.

Can I convert a GIF to a still image instead?

Yes — use GIF to JPG or GIF to PNG for the first frame.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Files are decoded, processed and re-encoded by your browser using the canvas API and Web Workers. Nothing is sent to any server, and there is no account or storage. Closing the tab discards everything.
