Frequently asked questions
Does removing metadata reduce image quality?
Pixels are re-encoded, so lossy formats like JPG are recompressed once at high quality (95%). PNG output is lossless.
Is color profile information removed too?
Yes. Embedded ICC profiles are dropped along with EXIF; browsers treat the image as standard sRGB.
Which metadata might be in my photo?
Commonly: GPS location, date/time, camera make and model, lens, exposure settings, software used and sometimes the owner's name.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Files are decoded, processed and re-encoded by your browser using the canvas API and Web Workers. Nothing is sent to any server, and there is no account or storage. Closing the tab discards everything.
