Compress JPG Images

Phone and camera JPEGs are saved at very high quality, often 3–8 MB each. Re-encoding at around 70–80% quality usually cuts that by 60–80% with no difference you'd notice on screen.

Frequently asked questions

What JPG quality should I use?

75–85% suits most photos on the web. Go lower for thumbnails, higher for prints.

Will compressing a JPG again make it worse each time?

Every lossy re-save loses a little. Keep your original and compress a copy.

Can I compress many JPGs at once?

Yes. Add a whole folder; each is compressed in parallel and you can download a ZIP.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Files are decoded, processed and re-encoded by your browser using the canvas API and Web Workers. Nothing is sent to any server, and there is no account or storage. Closing the tab discards everything.
