Compress Image to 20KB Online

Many websites cap uploads at 20 KB — common for signature and thumbnail fields on government and exam forms. This tool re-encodes your photo as a JPG and searches for the highest quality that still fits under 20 KB, so the picture stays as sharp as the limit allows.

About this tool

For tiny limits like this, try a smaller maximum width (for example 400–600 px) for the best result. Everything happens in your browser, so private documents and photos are never sent anywhere.

How it works

  1. 1

Add your photo (JPG, PNG, WebP and more).

  2. 2

The target is already set to 20 KB — change it or the maximum width if you like.

  3. 3

Press Process, check the size, then download.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce an image to 20 KB?

Add the image, leave the target at 20 KB and press Process. The tool lowers JPG quality just enough to fit. If it can't be reached, reduce the maximum width and try again.

Why is my result larger than 20 KB?

Very large or highly detailed photos may not fit at their original dimensions. Set a smaller maximum width (for example 1200 px) and process again.

Will the image look worse?

Some quality loss is unavoidable when meeting a small size limit, but the tool keeps quality as high as the limit allows.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Files are decoded, processed and re-encoded by your browser using the canvas API and Web Workers. Nothing is sent to any server, and there is no account or storage. Closing the tab discards everything.
